I recently posted a link to a story, from NPR’s ‘All Things Considered’ (one of my fav NPR shows, I might add), to my facebook page that begged the question: “Why are wedding dresses so expensive?”

Ok, now time to get on top of my soap-box! I remember having a conversation with a friend one night and the topic of prices and her wedding came up. She had noticed that the menu at a local banquet hall was exactly the same for a wedding reception and for a business meeting. The difference was the price. I don’t recall what the price difference was now, but it was pretty huge. When she had asked them why there was such a difference in price their only reply was, “…well, it’s a wedding, and weddings cost more.”  Huh? – Wait, I thought that the menu was the same. And if the menu and the amount of people attending are the same, shouldn’t the banquet facility’s costs be relatively the same?
